Announcements Announcements Announcements!

At approximately 1530 Mountain time yesterday, February 20, 2010, Bex became Mrs. Dude. I left my phone in the car at the hotel, so liveblogging was right out, and I've just gotten free and back to a computer long enough to throw this post up. (Had to set my fantasy NASCAR drivers first. Priorities, yaknow?)

Pictures will be up as soon as we get them back from our photographer, probably a couple weeks.

:-D

I'm not dead

I have posts incoming, I promise. Even one that was supposed to be up on Saturday. Unfortunately, I had a computer go terminal over the weekend, which required six hours of work last night, culminating in an hour-plus call to MacroShaft "tech support" that accomplished nothing (and had me running in all the same circles I'd already run before I called), and the one thing I was trying to avoid, deletion of all HDD partitions, then a full format and clean install of XP. Unca Loki's officially pissed. I'll get at least the Saturday post up tonight, in the middle of packing for the wedding, and getting the computer back to functional.

Grrr

Vermont Carry in Wy?

I heard the best news on the radio this morning. A bill is in the works to allow Vermont-style carry in Wyoming.

From the Casper Star-Tribune:

If the bill passes, Wyoming would become only the third state in the nation, after Vermont and Alaska, to allow conceal-carry without a permit.

Under House Bill 113, the only people not allowed to carry concealed weapons in the state would be people under the age of 21, convicted felons, those convicted of drug-related charges, alcoholics, those with physical disabilities that impair their ability to handle firearms, and people who have lived in the state less than six months.

Now let's play Good Politician, Bad Politician.

Good:

Rep. Lorraine Quarberg, the Thermopolis Republican sponsoring the bill, said the legislation is meant simply to spell out rights that are already guaranteed under the Wyoming Constitution and the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

"I just believe people have the right to protect themselves and defend themselves," Quarberg said. "And I want to make sure that we put it in statute and people know they can do it."

Bad:

Rep. Pete Jorgensen, D-Jackson, went further, saying that loosening gun control regulations, except for hunting, would be dangerous to everyone.

"I've been in situations in other countries working where I'm glad I didn't have a gun," said Jorgensen, who served overseas in the U.S. Army. "I've not sure I would've controlled myself."

So, Petey, since you're a juvenile who lacks the basic human capacity for self-control, the rest of us are likewise utterly lacking in discipline and responsibility? Do you also have issues with road rage, when you're in control of a 3000 pound weapon of mass destruction?

Either way, this bill should pass, and will prove exemplary to the rest of the nation.

Ford Earthfucker (tm)

There's been much talk made of Unc's statement regarding the Ford Earthfucker. Random Nuclear Strikes has their example of the breed.

Submitted for your approval is my very own personal, beloved Ford Earthfucker, fondly dubbed the War Machine.

11 mpg out of an old V8 pushrod engine, and 4x4 to get me back where the hippies don't want me to be.

Cry, granolas, cry.

Damn. Just Damn

The radio this morning delivered sad news. It seems Captain Phil Harris of the F/V Cornelia Marie died of complications from a recent stroke. He had been showing signs of recovery, but took a sudden turn for the worse.

Statement from Discovery - Discovery mourns the loss of dear friend and colleague Captain Phil Harris. He was more than someone on our television screen. Phil was a devoted father and loyal friend to all who knew him. We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart. We share our tremendous sadness over this loss with the millions of viewers who followed Phil’s every move. We send our thoughts and prayers to Phil’s sons Josh and Jake and the Cornelia Marie crew.
His sons also released a statement:

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad - Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that strength. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. - Jake and Josh Harris

Captain Phil will be remembered as a tough, hard working man, who loved and was loved by his sons. May peace be with them as they cope with their loss.

One way ticket to hell

It seems Rep. John Murtha (Asshat - PA) died today. I didn't even know the treasonous bastard was sick, or I'd have sent my worst wishes long ago.

Rot in hell.

On Covers

There's an obscene range in the quality of various covers that have been recorded. Some could suck a golf ball through a garden hose. (See Marilyn Manson's cover of the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams.") Some are pretty good. Metallica's cover of Whiskey in the Jar, and James Hetfield's cover of "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out of Hand" both come to mind. Some covers actually improve on the original, like Uncle Kracker covering "Time After Time." (Seriously, go find it. Well worth the time it takes to look.)

And sometimes a cover blows the doors clean off the original. This is unquestionably the case with Seether's cover of "Careless Whisper."

Sorry there's no actual video this week, this is the best I could find. Seriously, I don't think I've heard Seether do anything I don't like, and this one I happen to love.

Enjoy.
