You know you're a gun nut...

So, there's this really shitty Jean-Claude VanDam flick (redundant, I know) on USA right now. And the bad guys, dressed as a busload of Catholic priests, just flipped a lever in their bus, and all of a sudden, they had mounted automatic weapons in firing positions all around this bus. My first thought?

"How hard would it be to do that to the War Machine?"

Have you any idea why a raven is like a writing desk?

Bex and I went to see the new Alice in Wonderland tonight. It was dark, and haunting, and warped, and absolutely beautiful. Johnny Depp was brilliant as the Hatter (helps when you're already half mad.) The Cheshire Cat pretty much stole the show. Visually, it was pure candy. Of course, being as it was a Tim Burton film, I expected nothing less. The humor was razor sharp, and quite grown up. Honestly, this isn't a kid's movie. The jokes are likely to go over their heads, and there are plenty of scenes and moments that would scare young'uns.

In the gamer vernacular, replay value was quite high. I know when we watch it again, we'll catch a wealth of things we missed the first time through. And we definitely plan on watching it again. In fact, I'm certain we'll buy it when it comes out on DVD.

A definite must-see.

My childhood has just been violated

Below is the trailer for the A-Team movie. Now, I loved watching the A-Team as a kid. I mean, seriously, if you didn't, foo, I pity you.



I'm not sure what to think. I mean, on one hand, it's the A-Team. On the other hand, they're messing with the A-Team, and there are so many ways that Hollywood could utterly screw this thing, in an outhouse.

I hope they at least use the title theme, instead of just hinting at it in the trailer.

Movie Review

Obligatory FTC disclaimer going in: Nobody paid me a bloody cent for this review. In fact, I rented the movie my damn self, with my own dollar (plus tax.)

Better half and I watched Julie & Julia tonight. Yeah, it's a chick flick. No, I really don't care.

The movie follows Julie Powell's personal mission to cook every recipe in Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" in one year. 524 recipes, 365 days. At the same time, it follows Julia Child's own mission to get the same book published, while dealing with the chaos of her own life.

Meryl Streep does a wonderful job portraying Julia Child, bringing smiles whenever she's on screen. Her performance borders on over-the-top, but anything less would have seemed... wanting.

Amy Adams (as Julie Powell) shows a woman at the ragged end of her rope, one step away from utterly falling apart, whose mission drives her to chaotic, obsessed depths, and who is eventually saved by the love that originally started the mission.

The jokes are fun, the story engaging, and the transitions between the two halves are smooth and effortless. I have no doubt that we'll end up buying it when we find it in the $10 rack.
