The Official Photographer

Bex here, making the first post as Lokidude's official photographer for the blog. We just picked up a new camera, a Nikon D40, for me to play with. So I'm putting it to good use and shooting everything that catches my eye.

Today we went exploring in our fabulous backyard here in the Greater Yellowstone Metro Region. Went to the one of the lakes on the outskirts of town after spending some time at the local gun range. Unfortunately, it's still frozen so the fishing there will have to wait a bit.

Next stop was to the local fishing spot in town so that Loki could check out if the fish were biting. The local opinion was that the fish were plentiful but you had to be fly fishing to catch anything. Why do I get the feeling that we'll be spending more time here in the near future?

Finally we took a drive up the canyon towards Yellowstone proper. The favorite sport on these drives is 1) counting deer and 2) dodging deer. The deer count today ran close to 200, though thankfully none were directly on the road. In my attempts to get some shots of the herds of deer it made me realize that my next purchase will be a 200mm lens so that I can zoom in closer. So instead a shot of deer to make you want to come out here and hunt, you'll just get another shot of the gorgeous scenery.

That's all for now, but more pictures will follow!

  1. Beautiful pictures!

And no ice fishing? Or is it not frozen enough?

  2. Ice is way too thin for that this time of year. I'm just biding my time, waiting for ice off so I can get to fishing the ponds. The river will have to do until then.
